According to the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, a worker in Columbus would have to earn $15.98 an hour to afford Columbus’ market rate of $831 for a two-bedroom for herself and her son. But that is nearly double what she could expect to get if she is earning Ohio’s minimum wage. As a result, low-wage earners and their children are often forced to live in unsatisfactoryhousing, where they experience health problems, inadequate schools, and economic distress.

To learn more about the challenges of the current affordable housing crisis in Central Ohio, you are invited to attend the League’s March 27 meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the Whetstone Library. E.J. Thomas, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity MidOhio will present an update on theAlliance’s recent study, which he chaired. The session will be moderated by WOSU's Clare Roth, and his remarks will be followed with time for audience questions
