Campaign finance updates needed in wake of court decision
Friday, Feb. 19, 2010
In response to the Supreme Court’s decision in the Citizens United case, League of Women Voters national President Mary G. Wilson sent a letter to the U.S. Senate yesterday urging an update of campaign finance laws.
Her letter suggests particular attention to requirements governing corporate and union spending. League lobbyists are visiting key Senate offices this month to discuss legislation.
Wilson also pointed to a new nationwide ABC News-Washington Post poll showing that the League is not alone in this fight: 80 percent of Americans of both parties oppose the Court’s decision.
