Senators must pass climate, energy legislation
Friday, Jul. 16, 2010
In e-mail correspondence with U.S. Senators George V. Voinovich and Sherrod Brown, the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus today urged support for strong climate change legislation.
The correspondence was sent today in response to an action alert issued by the League of Women Voters of the United States. The full text of the e-mail follows:
On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus and our hundreds of members across central Ohio, I urge you to support strong climate change legislation.
A strong bill should include a cap on greenhouse gases that declines over time to meet pollution-reduction goals based on the best scientific information. Enforceable interim and long-term goals are needed to compel early and effective action and guard against irreversible damage.
We also need complementary policies such as a strong renewable energy standard and tough new energy conservation requirements.
Global climate change is one of the most serious threats to the environment, health, and economy of our nation and our world. Please act to curb global warming and transition America to a clean energy economy.
