Congress must salvage Election Assistance Commission
Friday, Jun. 24, 2011
In email correspondence with U.S. Representatives Steve Austria, Steve Stivers, and Pat Tiberi, the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus spoke out against an effort in Congress to terminate the Election Assistance Commission.
The correspondence was sent in response to an action alert issued by the League of Women Voters of the United States. The full text of the email follows:
On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus and our hundreds of members across central Ohio, I urge you to oppose HR 672, which would terminate the Election Assistance Commission.
Congress should not turn its back on federal efforts to ensure election integrity, improve voter access to the polls, and improve election systems.
The value of the EAC far outweighs its monetary costs; in fact, the costs of poorly run elections are intolerable.
Vote NO on HR 672.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your service to central Ohio.
