Democracy in Action: A Progress Report
Friday, Mar. 15, 2013
Plans for the 2013 Democracy in Action award to be presented to Senator and Mrs. Glenn on May 14, 2013 at the OSU Fawcett Center on Olentangy River Road are moving ahead.
The Honorary Co-Chairs are John F. Wolfe, Chairman, The Dispatch Printing Company; Leslie Wexner, Founder & President, Limited Brands; and Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist.
Sponsorship letters were mailed in February, and League volunteers have been busy making follow up calls. We have increased our sponsorship levels this year in light of our awardees, and we are offering a private reception to patrons at the $500 level and beyond with the Glenns, the Honorary Co-Chairs and our corporate sponsors. Corporate sponsors will also benefit with a corporate table or two. The private reception will begin at 5:30PM with doors to the award ceremony opining at 6PM. We've engaged a pianist and event an little extra surprise or two.
We are working with Chef Adam at the Fawcett Center to present a most delicious array of small bites. We will also be including something chocolate since the Senator is an admitted chocoholic.
Matt Habash, last year's recipient, will present the award to the Senator and Mrs. Glenn, and Chuck White has agreed to lead us through the award ceremony.
In planning this special event, we have found two books we'd like to call to your attention. John Glenn: A Memoir written the Senator with Nick Taylor, and And His Lovely Wife, by Connie Schultz. Both are excellent reads.
